This recipe comes from Gourmet magazine. I really do miss this magazine. Though I subscribe to Food & Wine, Bon Appetit and Cooking Light, Gourmet remains my all-time favorite. I’m currently reminiscing the old Gourmet by reading Ruth Reichl’s Garlic and Sapphires. With such a legacy of personalities like Ruth and Sara Moulton, it will be a long time before Gourmet dies!

Enhance the flavor of the dish by using some chicken stock as well as the shrimp shell stock.

I used 2 cups chicken stock and 5 cups water to make the shrimp stock.

Also, I added some Shiitake mushrooms to the dish. Definitely added a bit more body to the meal.

Bon Appetit Is Here

I received my first two Bon Appetit magazines yesterday. This magazine is replacing my former Gourmet subscription. In all honesty, I had let Gourmet run out and forgot to renew. So, in early December, I opened up a Bon Appetit subscription. Many years ago (10+), I had subscribed to Bon Appetit. However, when I learned of the history of Gourmet and found out that Sara Moulton was associated, I had to make the switch. I was very happy to see the December issue delivered as I longed for Gourmet’s December cookie extravaganza. I can’t say Bon Appetit did as good a job, but they had some great articles and meal ideas.

Some great cookbook ideas for 2010. My favorite chef, Sara Moulton, walked through several in the video link attached. Several will help the family walk through some great meals on a budget that will be good for your wallet. Others are focusing on comfort foods like one entirely devoted to slow cookers.

Sara Moulton Live…Join the Troops in Bringing her Back

With the announcement of Gourmet Magazine's closing, I've been wondering what Sara Moulton is up to. I've seen her on network television a few times. Her PBS shows are still airing…even if I think I've seen them all. I visit her website often to find out what she's up to or where she'll be on next.

I've been a fan of Sara for nearly ten years. Her Cooking Live show really opened my eyes on how to cook and entertain effortlessly. My passion for food and cooking stems much deeper than Sara. However, her confidence in front of the camera live every weeknight was enough of a boost to push me to the next level I needed to get to.

Surfing through Facebook, I found a new page that I geared towards those of us who would like to see Sara host live cooking shows again in the future. I encourage you to join up and show your support.
