Sunday gravy…why can’t I be italian????

Our last dinner in NYC this time around was at a restaurant called Gonzo on 13th between 6th and 7th avenues. Great food and portions that really could have been considered too large. The special for Sunday night was a traditional "Sunday gravy"…a beautiful all-day pot of short ribs and meatballs and sausages in red sauce.

I did not take the special as I had my eye on a salad and one of their very flat-crusted pizzas. However, it got me to thinking, why don't I make Sunday gravy at home? I'm going to give it a try this winter.

Visit to Greenwich Village…

If you're a foodie and want to hit some good places, go to Greenwich village. If you're looking to stop and get a bite to eat or looking for some great ingredients at specialty shops, Bleecker Street offers some of the city's best.

Murray's Cheese Shop – Hosts some of the best cured meats and cheeses around. You can also order online!
Ottomanelli's Meat Market – Been a staple of the area for years. Much better place to purchase beef than your average grocery store.
Rocco's Pastry & Espresso – If you need a good place to stop for a sweet and a coffee, go here. Also, if you're in the market for great homemade cookies instead of baking yours for Christmas, consider this bakery when looking. Again, hand-made sweets and pastries that will surely please. We had a canoli and cup of coffee this afternoon. Great way to tide us over waiting for our next gastro-delight tonight!!!

Sangria 46 in NYC – Great pre-snow meal

We enjoyed our first meal this visit to NYC at Sangria 46. We have my father with us and wanted to give him the opportunity to try something new. So, over two pitchers of sangria, we trekked our way through the tapas menu. Great food as always (we've been here a few times in past visits. Here's our selection list from last night:

Manchego cheese with quince
Bacon-wrapped dates
Marinated beef tenderloin
Cod croquettes
Tortilla with chorizo
Marinated pork cubes
Bacon-wrapped shrimp
Goat cheese and serrano ham on bread

I would highly recommend this restaurant. After trying tapas, my dad is a convert. Maybe we can take him to Washington DC sometime. There's always Jaleo!

Sangria 46 – NYC Tapas

Reservations are set. We're heading over to Sangria 46. This restaurant is a good place for tapas, or small plate dining. We've been here a few times on our trips to NYC. I figure this is a good place to get my father acclimated to this type of dining.
