About

Welcome! I’m all about food…in every part of my life. By day, I head up fresh product merchandising for a division of the largest food retailer in the US. The stores I oversee are located in Chicago and across the state of Wisconsin. By night and weekend, I’m all about food at home.

From a food perspective, I gain my inspiration from a series of sources…but it goes back to one person, my mother. An avid cook herself, I really gained a connection to food after she passed when I was 14. A way to connect with her, I started to make some of the dishes she made while we were growing up. Further inspiration came in the early years of the Food Network. Sara Moulton’s Cooking Live show was a daily treat. Though I’ve since moved away from cooking networks like Food Network and Cooking Channel due to their game show like format, I still reminisce of my post-work visits with Sara. Nowadays, I’m an avid fan of America’s Test Kitchen, Milk Street Kitchen, and several magazines. My cookbook library grows annually and I’ve accumulated quite the recipe database!

From a gardening perspective, we have a small plot (35′ x 30′) in our suburban Milwaukee yard. With rows of raised beds and lots of love, we’ve been producing bushels and bushels of produce for years. Our 2020 garden consists of the following: tomatoes (paste/cherry/slicing), eggplant, zucchini, beans (wax/green/Romano), corn, arugula, romaine, Swiss chard, beets, large leaf basil, Thai basil, kohlrabi, red cabbage, green cabbage (caraflex…my favorite), broccoli rabe, cucumber (English/cornichon), sweet potatoes, tarragon, garlic, and carrots.

Lastly, from a preservation perspective, we can, freeze and ferment lots. With a good tomato season, we’ll make salsa, crushed tomatoes, tomato soup (frozen), beets, pickles, pickle relish, German red cabbage, sauerkraut, and pesto. This is an area where I like to experiment and will happily try more as time goes on!

Thank you for taking the time to read this about page. I look forward to sharing my love of food with you often!
