I'm going through my vast library of cookbooks and magazines acquired over the years. It's Christmas cookie planning day. I like to go through everything, mark the items that appeal to me this year. I'll go back through the marked items to create a cookie menu that provides a good mix of flavor and texture. Some fruit, some chocolate, some nuts. A little spice, a lot of sweet. Some soft, some chewy, some crunchy, and some in between.
It's not without some sadness, though. One of the highlights of cookie planning was the annual December issue of Gourmet magazine. I loved highlighting the cookie themes the magazine provided in my holiday arsenal. I'll have to find a new source that hopefully compares to the exciting varieties and presentations that Gourmet has provided over the years. I'll share my plan for this season as soon as I'm done. I'll even try to post the recipes so that you, too, can try some of what I'm going to make.
